Applications OPEN - 2012 Academic Year - Semester 1 and 2

Applications are open for this period and accepted from August 2011.  As there is very high demand for Monash Residential Services managed accommodation it is recommended that interested students apply as early as possible.  All interested students should note the following points:

  • No application fee is payable.
  • Offers for accommodation are on a 'first in' basis to suitable vacancies.
  • Applications are accepted until the residences are full.
  • Current Year 12 Students; are advised to lodge an application now in anticipation of a course offer from Monash in January 2012.  Year 12 students should not wait till a course offer is made as this will place you lower on the waiting list.  Apply now to gain maximum advantage.  No fees are payable until a course offer is made.
  • New Students; are encouraged to apply for accommodation in the semester prior to commencement of studies at Monash.  Application forms are available each year from Monash Open Day in August.
  • Returning Residents; should complete a re-admission form which is available from the Berwick Residential Office in October/November each year.
  • Mid-Year Applications; the University has a smaller intake of students mid-year (July).  Some accommodation places may be available due to graduations and International Students returning home. Interested students should contact the Berwick Residential Office from May each year to check on availability for the Semester 2 Academic period.  Successful applicants will start to receive offers from mid to early June with an expected commencement in mid July prior to the commencement of the Semester 2 Academic Teaching Period.
  • Students from the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences and the Faculty of Education; please note that opportunities do exist for you to take up occupancy in the on-campus accommodation prior to the official Semester 1 'move-in' date, in order to allow you to complete your practical placements and Faculty specific orientation programs.  Please contact the Berwick Residential Office for further information.

Details of the Admissions Policy are available on our website http://www.mrs.monash.edu.au/on-campus-accommodation/regulations-and-policies/admissions-policy.html

Berwick Residential Application and Acceptance process

The following flow-chart outlines the process of applying and accepting an accommodation place at Berwick Residential. We hope this will assist prospective students in understanding the process that is followed once a New Residency application is received at Berwick Residential.  For more information about the 2012 application process, download the following brochure PDF (85 kb)

Application Stage

The student completes an Application form and sends the form to Berwick Residential together with one (1) passport size photo, as per the instructions on the form.
Berwick Residential receives the application and sends an acknowledgement email (on the same day or next business day) advising the student that the application has arrived, and when they should expect to receive an offer.  This is sent to the email address listed on the students’ application form.
Berwick Residential processes the application; allocates a room to the student and creates the Residential Offer documents.

Offer Stage

Berwick Residential sends the Residential Offer by email to the student (the email address on the application form is used).
Student receives the offer on their email account.  Reads all of the documentation and considers the offer.  Students who have a multiple accommodation choice [example: (1) Berwick (2) Clayton (3) Peninsula (4) Gippsland (5) Caulfield] on their application need to notify Berwick Residential immediately if there is a change of preference in regard to their Monash University Offer.  Berwick Residential will not accept responsibility for a student missing out on accommodation due to a change of preference to their Monash University Academic Offer.

Student accepts the Residential Offer by printing the Residency Agreement, signing it and sending it back to Berwick Residential with  proof of the required payment by the lapse date as stated in the offer documentation.

Note:  Whilst every attempt will be made to place successful applicants as per their preference, this may not always be possible.

Acceptance/Confirmation Stage

Berwick Residential receives the signed Residency Agreement and payment, and sends an acknowledgement email back to the student.

Berwick Residential processes documentation; receipts payment (receipt is on file for future collection), and finalises the room allocation.
Berwick Residential sends a final email to the student which includes details of the Arrivals process and the pre-arrival information Berwick Residential needs before the student arrives.

Arrival Stage

Berwick Residential receives the pre-arrival information and makes the final arrangements.
The student arrives, collects their room key and other information.  The student then meets the Residential Support Team, is shown to their room, given time to unpack and settle in, before being invited to meet other new and returning residents.
Note:  Students who wish to move in before the official move-in date as stated in the Letter of Offer, need to seek prior approval from the Berwick Residential Office, before making final travel arrangements.
